New Car Rebates

Should you accept a rebate or should you go with lower interest rates?  My rule of thumb is...take the rebates.

There are a number of reasons for this...

• Taking the rebate lowers the balance that you pay interest on throughout the entire life of the loan.

• If you take the lower interest and then pay the loan off early, you do not realize the full benefit of the lower interest rates

• take the rebate and then search for low interest on-line...it's like having your cake and eating it too

New Car Leasing

People lease because they "think" they can get more vehicle than they can really afford...don't get caught in this trap.  If you can't afford to purchase the vehicle buy a lower priced model new car, buy the same model but with less bells and whistles or buy a good  used one.

Only lease if you are dead certain that you will trade every two to three years.  And then I'd still have an accountant go over the fine print.

I'm told (by dealers) that some of the manufactures leasing programs are very competitive when compared to purchasing.  That may be because their financing is not all that good.  If you're seriously considering leasing take you best finance quote and the dealers leasing offer and take them to an Accountant...you may also wish to have an attorney look over the leasing agreement.

New Car Prime buying dates

I'm sure you've heard the know-it-alls brag that they know the right time to purchase a car.  I've heard them all...

• Only purchase at the end of a month
• Only purchase at the end of a quarter
• Only purchase the current year model when the new year models hit the show room floor
• Only purchase in December
• Only purchase in July

I'll tell you the "Real" best time to purchase a new car...only purchase when you are ready to purchase.  If you do your homework and follow these steps you can make a good deal anytime of the year.

Don't let a calendar date or a special sale deadline dictate your car purchase.
